Congratulations you're having a baby! Consider Traditional Midwifery care.

Midwife means "with woman"

Since the beginning of human kind, women of childbearing age have sought the support guidance, and skill of other more experienced women. These wise women had most often experienced birthing and raising their own children, as well as having gained the knowledge that only comes from being with many women during the their childbearing years. Even today, all over the world midwives are "with women" during one of the most significant experiences of their lives: childbirth. Midwives understand that being "with woman" means providing individualized care, addressing each woman's and each family's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Over 80 percent of the babies born in the world today are received into the caring, skillful hands of a midwife.

Paul, Amy and Torin, Midwifery ClientsWhat is a traditional midwife?

Traditional midwives are experts in normal reproductive care. The midwife's primary role is to insure a safe, loving birth for each mother and baby. Traditional midwives most often care for families who opt for a homebirth and sometimes for those families giving birth in a free standing birth center. Today many traditional midwives receive their training and education through a combination of classroom studies and hands on apprenticeships. During their education midwives become specialized in normal pregnancy, birth, newborn and well woman care. Midwives recognize that pregnancy and birth are normal and healthy functions, not illnesses. Traditional midwives are trained to recognize abnormal conditions during pregnancy, labor, and birth. The midwife will assist the family in finding specialized care for a pregnancy related condition that is beyond her scope of practice and she is trained to provide stabilizing care during birth until help is available. Scrupulous attention to providing excellent prenatal care and support for good nutrition are the most effective ways to avoid complications during labor and the postpartum period.
